Air Show South Africa

ASSA is devoted to bringing thrilling air shows to all South Africans, featuring airplanes, helicopters, and military jets, along with ground activities for all ages. The event emphasises safety, comfort, and enjoyment, and offers excellent commentary, music, food, and exhibitions. ASSA supports event organisers and maintains a strong online presence to promote aviation to enthusiasts and the public.

The Balloon and Airship Federation of South Africa

The official representative body for all balloonists in South Africa. BAFSA is the organiser of the annual South African Hot Air Balloon Championships which takes place in May in the Eastern Free State town of Bethlehem. BAFSA encourages contact with all aviators and interested parties and provides information on training and training organisations.


The Experimental Aircraft Association of South Africa

The EAA of South Africa unites aviation enthusiasts to build, fly, and maintain non-type certified aircraft. We inspire interest through events, activities, and programs like the Young Eagles Initiative that introduces children to flying. From EAA AirWeek and Sun-‘n-Fun to local workshops, we offer diverse aviation experiences. Advocating for recreational pilots’ rights, we provide resources and support members.

South African Gyroplane Association

The South African Gyro Pilots Association serves as the recognized voice of Gyrocopter Aviation in South Africa through leadership, collaboration, and unity in the promotion of safety in the sport of Gyrocopter Aviation in South Africa. SAGPA aims to boost Gyrocopter aviation in South Africa by advocating safety, compliance, innovation, and heritage recognition. We’re committed to supporting the Gyrocopter Piloting community’s needs.


South African Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association

SAHPA is the national association that represents the interests of recreational pilots that fly Paragliders, Hang gliders, Paramotors and Paratrikes in South Africa. SAHPA is also a statutory body with an approval from the Civil Aviation Authority to oversee the operations of its members, ensure compliance to the regulations and report non-compliance to the regulator.

The Microlight and Sport Aircraft Association of South Africa

MISASA represents pilots of various aircraft and aims to preserve the freedom of recreational flight in South Africa. Their mission includes promoting safety, organising inspiring events, and supporting members. The organisation influences legislation, provides vital information, and offers a community for pilots. Membership benefits include event access, skills development, and compliance with aviation regulations.


Parachuting Association of South Africa

Sport parachuting is a disciplined sport that operates within rigidly defined and enforced safety parameters as set out in PASA’s Manual of Procedures. This Manual has been ratified by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) and is the basis upon which PASA has been approved as an Aviation Recreation Organisation. The safety and training standards contained in the manual are on a par or better than international standards and must be adhered to by all affiliated drop zones and members in South Africa.

South African Power Flying Association

The SA Power Flying Association consists of aviation enthusiasts who have a strong passion for recreational flying in South Africa. Sport Aerobatic Club of South Africa

The lure of flying in an unusual attitude has appealed to aviators almost since the advent of powered flight and the first aerobatic manoeuvre is attributed to Frenchman Adolphe Pégoud when he demonstrated inverted flight in August 1913 in a Bleriot XI monoplane. A few days later a Russian pilot flew the ‘loop the loop’ and stunting was borne! The South African aerobatic scene tracked international developments with the first national championship taking place in 1963 in Durban, organised under the auspices if the Aero Club of South Africa. The Tiger Moth was the aircraft of choice in those days.

Rise Above Aviators is a registered Aero Club of South Africa aviation recreational organisation. We are champions of aviation transformation, youth development and awareness.


The Soaring Society of South Africa

Soaring Society of South Africa (SSSA) promotes gliding in South Africa and trains glider pilots to have the skills required to fly gliders safely and competitively. The Soaring Society oversees safety standards, glider registration, instructor training, airspace access, sport promotion, and international collaboration in gliding.

South African Model Aircraft Association

SAMAA offers a comprehensive range of services to its members, including expert advice, club and flying site registration, public liability insurance, event approvals, regular communication via newsletter and the web, management of radio frequencies, flying skill development, compliance with rules and regulations, participation in local, regional, national, and international competitions, representation, shared airspace utilisation, and affiliations with like-minded organisations.
