FLY SAFE Safety Campaign
Safety First Aviator
Pilot’s Credo
Safety First Aviators Credo
As a proud Aviator, I confirm that I subscribe to this credo and the ideals of SAFETY FIRST AVIATORS from this day forth, to keep me, my family and my friends safe.
- I acknowledge that safety starts with myself.
- I will display good Airmanship.
- I accept that all pilots, including myself, are fallible and that through good discipline and compliance on our part the risks are reduced.
- I will assign fellow aviators to watch out for me and assist them in improving their safety.
- I am prepared to listen and consider the advice that is given by fellow aviators.
- I will not hesitate to approach fellow aviators if I have a genuine concern for their safety and intern will welcome other pilots whom approach me.
- I will be considerate, creating a safe environment for all aviators, allowing all to operate within their respective limitations.
- I will never attempt to show my skills off to anyone until I have earned these skills.
- I acknowledge that, whenever there is doubt as to whether I should fly, I will not.
- I will consider the risks and consequences before making decisions and will always treat flying with the respect and prudence it deserves.
- I will always check the weather en route and at my destination prior to making a flight.
- I will play my part in the safety of flying in South Africa.

Aero Assist
AERO ASSIST
The Aero Club has created a Member Support Initiative to assist active Aero Club members in their Recreational Licence and ATF application submissions to the CAA.
The essence of this initiative is to facilitate the application process with the CAA, which will entail assisting members to collect documents, provide a function of validating completeness of an application pack and submission to the CAA on the members behalf, collection back from the CAA and return to the member via a courier service if required. Members can arrange to collect directly if preferred. Cost R300 per submission, R150 Courier Service
www.aeroassist.org.za
AeroAssist is a web based system that can be used by members of the Aero Club to facilitate Authority to Fly applications with CAA
The functionality of the system allows for the upload all required documentation that must be submitted with the application. Aircraft details and applicable documentation will be saved to a master document set for the aircraft and will be available for subsequent applications; making it easier for the user for future renewals.
Applicants are kept up to date with regards to application progress via their preferred communication method – sms or email. When the Authority to Fly has been issued by CAA, it will be stored in the system and automatically emailed to the applicant. As an additional service we also send a reminder at the appropriate time when an Authority to Fly is due.

Flying in Africa
Requirements for validations:
To fly SA registered aircraft, foreign pilot licence holders must have their FAA licence validated in accordance with SACAA regulations.
Regarding the validation of foreign PPL for VFR, the SACAA proposes that all applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Be a holder of a valid foreign license, medical and radio certificate.
- Have their licence validity verified by SACAA with the country of issue.
- Submit an application accompanied by the appropriate fees for validation including foreign license and medical copies at least 90 days prior to planned issuance of the validation.
- On submission of the original license, medical and application form the validation will be issued for PPL VFR operations for a period not exceeding 90 days, without the pilot having written a South African Air Law Examination or having performed a Flight Test. However the following endorsement will be placed on the validation
For private day VFR operations only, provided the holder first successfully completes an appropriate South African Air Law examination and a flight test at an approved ATO, with a Grade 1 or Grade 2 flight Instructor.
Foreign PPL holders seeking validation for hour building purposes will be required to comply with the normal requirements that include writing the South African Air Law examination and performing a flight test prior to the issuance of the validation.
You must have your logbook and other documentation with you in South Africa. Your log must contain an endorsement to fly the specific type of aircraft you intend to fly in southern Africa. Without this endorsement, validation is not possible.
